Exterior auto detailing is a thorough cleaning of the vehicle exterior and paint surface. Unlike a traditional car wash, care is taken to safely clean your vehicle. Another aspect of auto detailing is machine polishing. The paint is polished to the best it can be before applying a coat of wax, sealant, or nano ceramic coating.

What is Paint Decontamination?

Paint decontamination is the chemical and mechanical process of removing embedded contaminants in the paint such as airborne compounds, industrial fallout, rail dust, ferrous (iron containing) particles, paint overspray etc. that are in the surface of the paint.

THE TRUTH ABOUT 9H COATING HARDNESS?

The Pencil Scale and the Mohs scale

There is a big difference between the "Wolff-Wilborn" graphite pencil hardness scale and the "Friedrich Mohs" mineral hardness scale.

The graphite pencil scale is a system that grades pencils on the hardness of the pencil lead (graphite). The Mohs scale starts with the softest mineral, talc=1H, to the hardest mineral, a diamond=10H.

Marketing by many ceramic coating vendors state their coating has a hardness of 9H or 10H. This claim is based on the pencil scale.They use the term "harndess scale" but they are referring the harndess of a #2 pencil, not Corundum 9H or Diamond 10H.

PAINT CORRECTION

The term paint correction is used by professional car detailers to describe the process of restoring, rejuvenating and polishing the paintwork of a vehicle.

The paint correction process removes surface imperfections that dull, oxidize, haze, or reflect light in various directions. The only true way to remove fine scratches (called swirl marks) in your paint is with the process of safe paint correction.

Several polishing steps are usually required to achieve full paint correction.
The first step is paint leveling. This process removes swirl marks and light scratches. The last step is a very fine finishing polish to achieve brilliance, gloss and clarity. Paint correction is a labor intensive process and it is the most time consuming part of the car detailing process.
